2018 Best Picture Nominees Ranked

They can't all be winners.

9. The Post

Topical subject matter but Spielberg does little with it. Plays almost like a movie of the week.

8. Darkest Hour

A great performance by Oldman is paired with an entourage of forgettable characters and uninspired directing.

7. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Killer performances, especially from Rockwell. But the story and setting fall flat.

6. The Shape of Water

Beautifully stylized. And the music will dance in your head for hours after viewing. Didn't care for the love story though.

5. The Phantom Thread

Daniel Day Lewis is a treasure. And Paul Thomas Anderson captures some magic with the tone and cinematography, breathing life into a story I never knew I wanted to hear.

4. Call Me By Your Name

Stunning performances matched with the director's realist approach to the setting and love story give this film an authentic breath of fresh air and provide a presence that really feels lived in.

3. Get Out

A great horror film. But also a great film. It's polished. It's creepy. It's important.

2. Lady Bird

There's a magical place in between laughter and spirit that directors would give almost anything to find. Greta found it. Almost flawless.

1. Dunkirk

This is Nolan at his best. 5 out of 5 stars.
